Dear Prospective 2023 SparkYouth Scholars:

We're delighted that you are applying to be a SparkYouth Scholar! The SparkYouth Scholarship is awarded annually to cover educational expenses (examples below) not typically covered by financial aid or traditional scholarships. The 2023 SparkYouth Scholars Scholarship will be awarded in June. Applications are due by Friday, May 5^th, 2023 at 5:00pm. Please review the scholarship criteria below.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA

Here are the eligibility criteria you need to know:

· You must be a first-year student with financial need heading to college or trade school in the fall of 2023.

· You must be a current participant or an alum of one of SparkYouth's grantee organizations.

· You are welcome to apply regardless of your immigration status or academic performance.

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT & PURPOSE

We expect the scholarship award amount to be approximately $1,000 to $1,500 per recipient. The scholarship must only be used for educational supplies, like books, software, calculators, tablets, and computers. Items for dorm rooms (i.e. bedding, lamps, furniture, etc.) as well as travel (bus fare, plane tickets, and metrocards) are not covered by the scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION & SELECTION

Please complete the ENTIRE scholarship application on page 2 by May 5th, 2023. Selection of the recipients will be made by a SparkYouth committee in an objective and non-discriminatory fashion.

ACCEPTANCE LETTER, PAYMENT, & PURCHASE RECEIPTS

SparkYouth will issue a letter of acceptance to each scholarship recipient setting out the terms of the scholarship and requesting the recipient’s signature. Once SparkYouth receives the signed acceptance letter we will send a check to the address provided by the scholarship recipient. The letter of acceptance will also include a publicity release and scholarship recipients are able to opt-out of all publicity.

Finally, we ask that scholarship recipients return receipts for all items purchased with the scholarship by April 1, 2024. More details about this will follow in the acceptance letter.

SCHOLARSHIP TIMELINE

· Scholarship Information and Application released – March 29th

· Scholarship Applications accepted – March 29th – May 5th

· Scholarship Acceptance Letter and Agreements sent to scholarship recipients – June 1st

· Scholarship funds released to recipients – June 16th
